Just few words to say that we had a wonderful experience with Masai Moja. Warmly welcomed, good guides with stong spirit on the Mountain, proper equipement, everything has been well organised to offer unforgetable days in Safari and on the Moutain for a French man like me!
My experience with Massai Moja was absolutely fantastic and I must take this opportunity to thank the team once again for helping me fulfill my long term dream.
I placed my utmost confidence in Massai Moja for my first trip to Africa and was wonderfully hosted in every way - I cannot resist giving top scores in each category.
To begin, I was met with smiling faces at the airport and taken to Moshi were Bibi made sure I was comfortably settled in. I arrived one day before the expedition started and the team made sure to go over all of my clothing and supplies to make sure that important items I was missing (like walking poles!!!) were added to my pile of equipment.
The Massai Moja guides on our team were exceptional. I feel it is very important to note that several guide books on Kilimanjaro climbs have stated that one is not to expect anything more from your guide than to be escorted to the summit if you are able. I am rather the geek when it comes to physical geography and my guides were both entertaining and very knowledgable when it came to responding to my constant barrage of questions. In addition, they were earnestly concerned with my pace and air/water intake in order to give me the best chances of reaching the summit.
The food on the mountain was delicious, plentiful, and hearty - I especially enjoyed the samosas (made from scratch)! The tents were pitched, clean, dry and stocked with our packs and belongings each afternoon when we reached base camp. We were even entertained with card games at night. Coming from Northern Ontario in Canada, I am a seasoned camper - and although I did not choose the luxury expedition - it certainly felt like one to me.
We took the Machame Route (Whiskey) which was quite physically demanding (despite my training) and thanks to the care and expertise of the expedition team, I successfully summited Kilimanjaro. I'll admit I have a strong will which is essential for this climb but I honestly feel that it was my guides' attention to my experience that made summitting possible.
And after the Kilimanjaro expedition, I had a few days to relax and enjoy Moshi. Bibi took the time to take me around town, introduced me to some of her artist friends (I'm an artist myself) and we enjoyed the local restaurants and cuisine. I just couldn't have asked for a better overall experience.
I can't wait to return and go on safari with Massai Moja - although I would do the Kilimanjaro expedition again in a heartbeat!
The bottom line: I wanted to explore Tanzania in comfort, but without the overpriced bells and whistles that many operators overcharge for. I explained what I wanted, and Maasai Moja delivered a very rewarding and complete Tanzania experience which included a multi-night safari, wildlife day trips, as well as the opportunity to experience everyday Tanzanian life. Of particular note were the guides, who were both knowledgeable and eager to make sure that I was seeing their country in the right way.
