About Us

TATO .

TATO was established 1983 to foster the interests of the licensed tour operators such as to carry out lobbying and advocacy for and on behalf of its members, to coordinate public and private sector partnership.

TATO also undertakes and publishes research in matters related to tourism industry and operations as well as to disseminate information to its members and relevant institutions.

Trainings and education provision to its members and employees are also among the key issues for the association.

Objectives


TATO’s overarching objective is to be an effective change agent for fostering an enabling business environment and to promote private sector’s regional and global competitiveness in tourism trade and investment.

The Association therefore provides a national platform through which the tour operators can present their concerns at the national policy level, with the overall aim of creating a more conducive business environment through targeted policy reforms.

Strategic Objectives


To promote and facilitate members to provide marketable tourist services into local and international market.

To act as a link between members, government and its institutions in promotion of tourism in Tanzania.

To coordinate members and help them in all technical matters pertaining tourism both at national and international level.

To promote tour operators ability to interact with community at large and protect interests of individual tourists.

To undertake feasibility study, research, appraisal, managing and executing programs and projects for the economic and community development in areas where tourism activities are carried out or in remote areas in Tanzania.

Councillors

Mr. Wilbard Chambulo:
Chairman

Save for the Forbes’ (French version for outstanding community service) recognition, Mr Willbard Chambulo is, indeed, an unsung tourism hero of our time. The man behind the thriving Tanganyika Wilderness Camps Ltd (TWC) and Kibo Guides Company (T) Ltd is credited as straightforward and pragmatic visionary leader in the business community. He is well known for his steadfast stance on conservation and community support.

Willy Chambulo, as he is simply referred to, is one of such rare strong-willed individuals who have moved mountains to overcome challenges up the ladder both for his companies and the tourism industry at large. He has always been believer in collective bargaining power. He joined TATO Council from 1990s ‘on and offs’ basis.

Today he is Chairman who is recognized for having taken TATO to this new height in collaboration with other council members in few years at the association’s helm.

Mr. Henry John Kimambo:
Vice Chairman

Finished Umbwe High School in 1995. Graduated in 1999 with Advanced Diploma in Business Administration from Institute of Development Management Mzumbe.

Worked as Operations Manager at Kirurumu Luxury Tented Lodge from 1999 until 2001. Graduated in 2002 from Mzumbe University with Masters in Business Administration and majored in Finance & Banking.

2003 joined Asilia Management Company as Project Manager for Kigongoni Lodge until 2006 when he was shifted to Sokwe – Asilia as Transport Manager. Joined A & K end of 2007 as Reservation & Sales Manager for Sanctuary Camps.

End of 2007 joined Grumeti Expeditions as Country General Manager until end of 2008 when he started his own company Dhana Investment Company Limited which runs and operates the following trading names; Osupuko Lodges & Camps, 40-40 Lounger and Dhana Safaris.

Also one of the Founder Directors of Kamitei Foundation.

Raju Modha:
Treasurer
Mr Raju Modha has an extensive experience in the Tanzanian Tourism Industry of more than 30 years. 
He is the CEO of Krisha African Safaris founded in 2009. 
Before starting his own company, Mr. Modha worked for an American Company – Abercrombie and Kent as their Financial Controller for 18 years.
Before Abercrombie and Kent, Mr. Modha worked for Shah Tours in Moshi.
Mr. Peter Lindstrom: Councillor

Mr. Peter Lindstrom of Hoopoe Safaris, a seasoned tour operator-cum-conservationist.

He has been a key player in tourism industry since 1960s consecutively.

His vast experience and passion in industry, particularly on conservation is expected to have a positive impact for the new generation.

Mrs. Vesna Glamocanin Tibaijuka:
Councillor

Mrs. Vesna Glamocanin Tibaijuka of Pure Afro Travels Tanzania is known for her posture on conservation drive. She has, particularly, been vocal on poaching menace. During her time with TATO as a Treasurer, Ms Tibaijuka played a key role to organize ‘Elephant March Campaign’—the TATO’s flagship crusade against poaching.

Mr. John Corse:
Councillor

Mr. John Corse is a Tanzanian businessman with extensive experience in the tourism sector.

He has been involved in Nomad Tanzania since 1998, was its Managing Director from 2007-2015 and remains on its board to this day.  In addition, he has managed the low cost airline, fastjet and is currently Managing Director of Serengeti Balloon Safaris.

Ms. Mozzah S. Mauly:
Councillor

Ms Mozzah Mauly is a vibrant Managing Director of Mauly Tours & Safaris

Mauly Tours & Safaris is one of the most pioneers successful family run business based in Moshi and Arusha towns. The company has been operating for over 30years in the tourism industry in Tanzania.

With an educational award in Business Management, Ms Mozzah is credited to have helped raise the family company from a humble beginning to great heights earning great accolades and international awards.

She is also an ardent participant and follower of tourism fairs internationally and locally

Her dedication to attend tourism meetings held by TATO and other tourism bodies is driven by her passion for tourism in Tanzania.

Ms Mozzah hopes to provide great ideas to overcome challenges faced in the tourism industry by local tour operators.

Mrs. Sayyedah Hirji Gulamhussein: Councillor

The Finance Director at multiple award-winning Easy Travel and Tours Limited, Sayyedah was delighted to be elected as a TATO councillor in 2017. She holds a Honours degree in  Business and Accounting, as well as a Certificate in Management and is well-qualified to contribute to the objectives of TATO as it continues in its aim of representing licensed tour operators in Tanzania.

With her, she brings a wealth of ‘hands-on’ experience, having been in charge of Easy Travel’s finances for over a decade as well as contributing to the strategy of the company as it has grown and developed into a leading tour operator through its focus on customer care, attention to detail and consistent quality. As well as playing a leading role in Easy Travel’s success, Sayyedah is also the proud mother of two young children. Sayyedah is passionate about Tanzania and the preservation of its natural wonders and is determined to bring that passion – as well as her commitment to constant improvement – to her work with TATO.

Ms. Hadija Msami:
Councillor
Ms. Hadija Msami has actively been working for H & A Unique Safaris (2000) Ltd for approximately 2 years. Within the company, she retains the role of Operations Manager. As Operations Manager, Hadija is tasked to oversee the reservations department by means of assorting price arrangements, and additionally aids the accounting department via generating and reviewing yearly rate cards. In addition, her role requires that she sustain a secure relationship with the clients.
 
Prior to obtaining the role of Operations Manager, Hadija attended school in the United States and successfully received a Degree in Business Administration. Through this degree, she familiarized herself with intense marketing skills, paradigms of financial stability, and account consultation. Being a 27-year-old woman in the tourism industry, she greatly feels that she could propel this field of work in the forthright direction. She is vibrant, quick to learn, and eager to understand how the industry works.
Mr. Emmanuel Wera:
Councillor

Mr. Emmanuel Wera [BA HRM, MBA] is one of the Directors at Park East Africa limited for over 10 years. Born and raised in Arusha, Tanzania (the heart of Tourism in the country) he grew up seeing and interacting tourists from a tender age.

His broad experience in the sector is supported by an MBA in marketing and other courses attended namely a Certificate on Export Marketing Course from The Centre of Promotion of Imports from Developing Countries (CBI) Netherlands.

Mr. Sirili Akko:

Mr. Akko, is the current Executive Secretary of TATO

Sirili Akko: Executive Secretary (Chief Executive Officer)

Mr. Akko, joined TATO in 2010 from World Vision Tanzania where he was working as project accountant. He holds solid training in Private Sector Development, Finance and Business Management.

Being the Executive Secretary he is charged with role of being head of TATO secretariat, an executive arm of the association, and is virtually responsible to, among other things, develop and crafting advocacy strategies, spearhead negotiations, and representing association in various platforms.

He reports to the Governing Council, an oversight body for the membership.

Michael Mollel: TATO Officer Attendant.

Michael Mollel joined TATO in October 1993, he has served industry for the last 22 years as TATO staff. He holds passion for office activities.

Michael is responsible for supporting all TATO staff in their day to day activities, backing, cleanness, filing of the office documents and purchase of office stationery. He is also responsible for following up of the business licenses and other tourism licenses for membership.

He is themost experienced TATO staff in his line of work and as such has offered unrivalled quality on his work. He holds passions and love for tourism sector. Before joining TATO he worked for Bonnite Bottlers ltd Arusha, and Perfect Printers ltd. Michael, attended various courses on tourism and office management to complement his extensive experience.

Emmy Kimaro: Public Relations Officer

Emmy Kimaro holds a BA in Public Relations and Marketing from St Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT) Mwanza campus. She joined TATO late in 2016 as a Public Relations Officer (PRO).

She acquainted herself with the media fraternity and built her local, regional and international network with journalists after her internship stints with the country’s leading print and digital media house — Mwananchi Communication Limited, Media Horizon Agency and Habari Maalum College where she produced some journalists.

With tourism passion at heart, Ms Kimaro provides TATO with a wider opportunity for engaging the media in the promotion of the multi-billion-dollar industry in and outside Tanzania.
